There are two basic types of monitors you will come across while buying one for yourself, that is the LCD monitor and an LED monitor. In this article, I have tried to answer the following confusing questions that always pop up in your mind and make it more difficult than ever.
1. What are LCD and LED monitors, what’s the difference between both of them?
2. Which one of them is good for the eyes?
3. Which of them is good for gaming?
4. How to differentiate between LCD and LED monitors?
Let’s get the answers.
What are LCD and LED monitors, what’s the difference between both of them?
The LCD is a Liquid Crystal Display in which the liquid crystals use the fluorescent lamps to pack the backlights behind the glass panel, whereas the LED that is the Light Emitting Diode that is also made up of liquid crystal but uses tiny LEDs to form the backlight instead of fluorescent lights.
Both the screens are basically LCD types but use a different source of backlighting via liquid crystals. Today the monitors you are seeing in the market coming up with the latest and advanced features, you will notice they are LCDs with LEDs backlights, and the LCDs with fluorescent lights are pushed behind and becoming older now.
Which one is better for eyes, LED or LCD?
It’s nearly impossible to quit seeing the screen, every minute in the working hours our eyes are glued to the screen, not only this, but for entertainment and of course for gaming, we face screen for maximum time in a whole day. For this, LED monitors are way better than the standard LCD because LED screens offer multiple viewing options to tweak and make it comfortable for the eyes.
Further, where there is low blue light technology and eye relief technologies are made to reduce eye strain, these properties are seen as more effective in LED screens than LCD. You can even notice the view angles are much more comfortable of an LED display compared to LCD that is having more rigid and not so good angles to watch the screen. In short, for long hours to spend, LED displays are good for you.
Which of them is good for gaming?
Gamers usually prefer a slim design, lightweight, plenty of the options to customize for your viewing habits, less power consuming, together with better color and contrast. All of these features can easily be found in LED monitors. Besides all the advanced technologies like ELMB, low input lag, black equalizers, etc to accommodate the gamer is more effective in LED displays. Thus for gaming, LED monitors are the best choice and are futuristic as well.
How to differentiate between LCD and LED monitors?
Now how do you know the one you are buying is an LCD or LED monitor? The only way to recognize is to check the manual or see the specs of that model on the company’s website. Though if you are a little tech expert, then observe the profile of the monitor physically, if it falls under the slim monitor’s category then it definitely an LED monitor, further LEDs are low power consumers compared to the standard LCD and so are expensive too.
Another trick is, LED monitors often lack built-in speakers because of their slim design whereas if you compare both the LED and LCD side by side, their picture quality is way too different as well. And you can easily notice that LED monitors is producing more vibrant colors than an LCD monitors.
What we have learned?
Almost all the renowned brands like Sony, Phillips, Asus, Dell, etc. are all working on LED displays because of the flexibility of the feature and their use for the consumer. Whereas the standard LCD monitors are getting old due to a lack of feature improvement in them. LED monitors might come expensive for many of us but they have great potential to deliver picture quality along with advanced features. On the other hand, if you are looking for a budget monitor, and you have a limited scope of utilizing then refrain from spending on an LED display, instead pick an LCD, which will cost you less.
